Carpentry & Trim Work in Grand Rapids

Finish carpentry jobs too small for a remodeler and too fussy to want to do yourself.

What We Build and Repair

  • Baseboards and trim: damaged pieces replaced, or new trim installed after new flooring goes in.
  • Rotted exterior trim and sills: soft wood cut out, replaced, caulked and primed.
  • Shelving and closets: closet systems, pantry shelves and simple built-in cubbies.
  • Handrails and stair railings: loose railings tightened, new handrails added where there were none.
  • Grab bars: in bathrooms and showers, fastened into studs or blocking, never just drywall.

Matching Old Trim

Older homes around Grand Rapids often have trim profiles that the big box stores stopped carrying decades ago. We match it as closely as possible from stock pieces, and if it can't be matched well, we'll tell you before cutting anything so you can decide whether a millwork shop is worth it.

When Rot Goes Deeper

A soft window sill or door trim is often just that. Sometimes the rot has reached the framing behind it. We pull the trim, look, and tell you which one it is before going further.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install grab bars in a tiled shower?

Yes. We drill the tile with the right bit and fasten into studs or blocking so the bar holds a full body weight.

Do you paint the trim after installing it?

We caulk and prime, and can paint a few pieces to finish the job. A whole-house trim repaint is better handled by a painter.

Can you replace one section of baseboard without redoing the room?

Yes. We cut in a new piece at a joint and match the profile as closely as possible.

What happens if the rot goes into the framing?

We stop and show you. Small framing repairs we can usually handle. Anything structural gets referred to a contractor rather than covered up.
